Reacting visually to the "folio" pages, the "framework" drawings explore the shapes of the text blocks on each of the folios (paragraph indents, negative/positive spaces, text justification).

system:
Create a stencil of the outline (or footprint) of the text on each folio. The drawings are built by layering in graphite the outlines of all 20 folios and finishing each by rendering a single set in black ink as the last layer.

Theoretically, the graphite backgrounds should all be nearly identical (the only thing that changes from drawing to drawing is the black outline). Despite the imposition of a system (however arbitrary), there are subtle shifts that emerge due to the laborious nature of the exercise.
